Suburban poverty is terrible

The Washington Post just wrapped up an excellent 4-part series about the Deep South, with the most recent piece discussing some unique challenges involved with suburban poverty and the lack of transportation options.

Poverty is bad no matter what, but the necessity of owning a car makes being poor in the suburbs worse than its urban counterpart. Add to this the lack of positive agglomeration effects and the challenges for social services in assisting a sprawled-out population and you have the recipe for a much bleaker quality of life.
